Arame
Arame is 3 years old, has Downs Syndrome, and lives with her grandparents in a temporary apartment. When her mother moved to be with her husband, she was unable to care for both Arame and her younger sister, and so the children were left in the care of their grandparents. Their mother visits when she can.
It is Arame’s grandmother who holds everything together, caring for Arame and her older siblings while selling peanuts to support the household. However, her grandmother is strained with too many needs and too few resources.
Until she was introduced to us, Arame had spent her days at home, kept apart from other children, with little stimulation and no opportunity to socialise or play. At an age when children learn most through interaction and discovery, she had been given neither.
Through Orchard House, we hope to give Arame the early years intervention, play, and specialist support that can make an enormous difference for a child with Down syndrome. Her grandmother has given her everything she has. We hope to give Arame everything she needs.
