Fatoumata
Fatoumata, known warmly as Fatou, is nearly 4 years old and has autism and cerebral palsy. She requires full support for all of her daily needs and cannot sit unaided or feed herself, but those who know her speak of the beautiful smile that appears when she feels safe and comfortable.
Fatou's father, a former immigration officer, has been unable to find work, and the family lives in an incomplete compound. Her mother carries Fatou with her throughout the day, to the market and through household chores, unwilling to leave her daughter behind, even as the weight of that responsibility grows heavier.
Through Orchard House, we hope to give Fatou the therapeutic support she needs and a space where she can be cared for, stimulated, and celebrated. And we hope to give her mother something she rarely has: rest, and the knowledge that her daughter is in safe hands.
