Muhammed

Muhammed is 6 years old and has autism. He is nonverbal, unable to indicate his needs or communicate when he is hungry or uncomfortable. He still wears diapers, and his mother remains at home full-time to care for him and his sister. His father works as a driver to support the family.

When we first met Muhammed, he was in the habit of sucking his fingers and had had little exposure to letters, numbers, or structured learning. But behind his quietness, there is a child waiting for the right door to open.

Through Orchard House, we hope to provide Muhammed with the early education and communication support that can give him a voice, whether spoken or otherwise. His mother has sacrificed her own independence to be there for him. We hope to show her, and him, that it will be worth it.
