BACKGROUND

For many years, a local school provided vital support to children from a range of backgrounds, including orphans and children with disabilities. Following the passing of the school's founder and primary benefactor, the school was forced to close due to loss of funding. This closure displaced many children within the village and placed significant hardship on the families and mothers who had depended on the school for support.

Thanks to the charitable support of our donors, we have been able to open Orchard House to our first group of children. We hope that the success of Orchard House will allow us to expand and open more schools in the surrounding community and provide centres of support for differently abled children.

The Founding of Orchard House

Moved by this loss, Dr Sadiq recognised that urgent action was needed. Planning for Orchard House began shortly after — a school whose name reflects its core purpose: an orchard is a place of growth, and it is growth that lies at the heart of everything we do.

Our Facilities

The school has been purpose-adapted to meet the needs of its students, and includes an occupational therapy room, sand pit, farm, outdoor play area, and a dedicated vegetable growing and farming space. The school day runs from 9am to 3pm, during which all children receive a hot breakfast and a hot lunch.

Community Impact

Orchard House is committed to supporting the wider community. The school actively employs young adults who face barriers to employment due to disability, including our head gardener and head of farming — creating meaningful livelihoods and fostering inclusion beyond the classroom.

Our

Students

Orchard House currently supports 12 students aged 3 to 18: Bintou, Musa, Mass, Fatou, Sheikh Tijan, Adama, Hakim, Cherno, Momodou, Ebrima, Muhammed, and Arame. Students present with a range of disabilities, from autism to muscular dystrophy, and each child receives an individually tailored programme designed to develop their cognitive and motor skills.

In addition to academic learning, students are equipped with essential life skills to foster independence - including personal care, food preparation, tending to farm animals, and growing fruit and vegetables.
